About Salsabangkok.com

Salsabangkok.com was founded in 1999 by Apple. The original purpose is to introduce Salsa and Latin dance culture and education to people in Thailand by publishing information, web board and dance related materials. As a result, Thai salsa community started to form gradually. In 2001, salsabangkok.com organized an instructor from New York to perform Salsa and Brazilian dances first time in Bangkok. Continuously, salsabangkok.com has offered free dance lessons as well as organized performances and music related presentations for charity or at an affordable rate in Bangkok since 2002.

Now we are composed of 7 professionals - Apple, Aoy, Pak, Ann, Roj, Joschi, and Benjamin. We are working on our passion seriously and sharing the same goal - to promote cultural dances in Thailand.

SALSABANGKOK MISSION
Promote and exchange social and cultural dances in Thailand
By seeing more, people will broaden their worlds and vocabularies about dance forms and dance educations. Salsabangkok hope to bridge this gap by promoting cultural dances such as Salsa, Belly Dance, Argentine Tango, African-Based Dance, etc. We organize events and workshops from dance professionals locally and internationally and encourage people to attend.

Expand resources for dance and cultural education
There are very limited resources for dances originated from the Caribbeans, the Middle Easts, Central and South Americas. We hope to have resources available for people who live in Thailand to learn more and understand correctly about each culture.

Create a nice & friendly dance community
Dance is an activity that can improve people's bodies, minds, relationships and spiritual connections. Besides that, it is a good way to meet up with people who have the same interest from various careers and backgrounds. We hope to expand dance into wider audiences and create interactive activities.

Raise dance standard in Thailand
We organize Salsabangkok Fiesta to promote dance to wider audiences and encourage people to participate in performances. A lot of people look for change of life and dance training is one mean that they can choose to focus. Proper training is required and we hope to involve in activities and create opportunities.

WHAT STOP DANCE COMMUNITIES IN THAILAND
Since 1999, we have observed the growth of dance scene in Thailand and the path has grown very slowly. There are few factors involved:
Limits to certain groups of people
Currently, dance activities are limited to mid-to-upper class Thai populations. Local people consider dance a very expensive hobby and something inaccessible. Dance could be a link within communities but it does not exist. The new generation is not interested in culture especially in dance and performing arts.
Lack of dance education and opportunities
Resources for dance and performing arts educations in other cultures are very limited in Thailand. People occasionally have opportunities to see cultural dances or if so, the ticket price is very expensive. A lot of people misunderstand or almost have no idea about different of social or cultural dances.

    WHAT YOU CAN HELP
We are looking forward to work with local and international Non-Profit Organizations who are interested in bridging and exchanging cultural dances and musics from different continents to Thailand. Our goals for 2005-2006 will be:

  • Invite professional performers or musicians to perform for charity events
  • Conduct workshops at an affordable rate
  • Promote amature Thai and international performers or musicians for cultural dances
